Your Vibe, Now on Urban Outfitters
Behind the scenes of our launch and what it really took to get here.
There was a time when I couldn’t walk into an Urban Outfitters (on Union Square) without leaving with a new pair of jeans or a perfect everyday tee. For years, it was my go-to for the basics, the reliable things that quietly made me feel like myself.
Now, my work lives there too.
As of this summer, Acquired Taste is officially available on Urban Outfitters’ online marketplace. It’s surreal! Not because I didn’t believe in my work, but because every single incense holder and coaster you see there was designed, poured, painted, and packaged right here in my garage. No big production studio. No factory team. Just me, creating the things I wish existed.
This brand didn’t come from trend forecasts or viral aesthetics. It came from ritual. From wanting the act of lighting incense to feel as beautiful as it smells. From reclaiming a daily practice and making it personal, again. And from choosing, every step of the way, to stay true to that.
What I Learned From This Launch:
-
It’s easy to follow trends.
But sticking to your vision, even when it’s niche or slower to catch on, builds a brand that people feel, not just scroll past. -
You need a system before you need a team.
I learned to streamline my process, stay organized, and create repeatable structures — before outsourcing or hiring. It saved me stress and money. -
DIY doesn’t mean unprofessional.
Doing everything myself didn’t stop me from showing up with polished product listings, clean branding, or efficient operations. It meant being resourceful and setting standards that matched my values. -
Your garage can be a launchpad.
Seriously. Don’t wait for a studio space, perfect lighting, or the “right time.” If you’ve got a table, a vision, and enough curiosity to keep going — that’s enough.
Why This Matters
Urban Outfitters gave me a new lane, not a finish line. I’m still growing, still learning, still figuring it out in real time. But this moment matters. It’s a checkpoint. A reminder that aesthetic doesn’t have to come at the cost of intention.
If you’ve ever held one of my incense holders, lit a stick after a long day, or sent someone a gift box to say “I see you” — you’re part of this.
Thank you for being here.
With love & appreciation,
— Hannah
